Issuing Prescriptions

Creating a prescription

  1. Go to Prescriptions in the portal navigation
  2. Click New Prescription
  3. Search for the patient (by name or email)
  4. Enter prescription details:
    • Medication name
    • Dosage and instructions
    • Duration (e.g., 28 days, 3 months)
    • Repeats allowed
    • Prescribing doctor
  5. Click Issue Prescription

The patient is notified and can view the prescription in their dashboard.

Prescription visibility

Issued prescriptions appear in:

  • Your clinic's Prescriptions list (with status: Issued, Viewed, Shared)
  • The patient's dashboard under Prescriptions

Who can issue prescriptions?

Staff with the can_manage_prescriptions permission can issue prescriptions. See Roles & Permissions.

Important: Local Health Care's prescription system is for record-keeping and communication. It does not replace the legal requirements for paper or electronic prescribing under Australian law. Always follow PBS and RACGP guidelines.
